the sound of restless feathers

sighing for the goose

rife with detritus

how great the depredations

of ravenous bees!

even without tea

old man empties his bladder

seven times a night

gusts of driving rain

battering the magnolia—

John the Baptist weeps

No one claims the song

frightened sparrows leave behind

as they flee the cat.

Old crane and his mate,

no longer driven to dance,

savor their sunset.
