  3. Nonnie USA says:

times I’ve had insomnia, never, ever did it occur to me to “saw logs’! clever man!

  4. Lea says:

I could hear the rhythm of the saw (notice I wrote saw and not hatchet) in your words, or was it snoring? I love the imagery and can see it oh so clearly, the moonlight is so bright…

  5. May the moonlight keep you safe from harm, doing what needs to be done in those sleepless hours.

  6. CynfulCreations says:

Being outdoors in the moonlight is always magical but cutting wood, that’s a new one to me! Aren’t you clever, to find such a productive way to deal with the insomnia!

  7. janicead says:

Wow. Someone must have a really bright moon! My Dad often did chores late at night.

  8. judie says:

If I had a woodpile, that would probably be me. Awesome haiku. I can picture it.

This made me laugh! I sleep with an ‘old insomniac’ who ‘saws wood’ every night, only to claim the next day, that he didn’t sleep a wink! 🙂

  14. The reasons, the reasons…his life that led to this eccentricity…a lot of thoughts.

  15. Bastet says:

One way to tire oneself out … of course lots of people “saw logs” to go to sleep I’ve been told as well as watch sheep .. 🙂 Loved the haiku … an interesting image.

  16. Always a good way to confront insomnia…I write or read…refuse to toss and turn

  17. Cathy Tenzo says:

Lovely. The sawing wood/sleep thing was the first thing I thought of but then I switched tracks., I love the way you did this

  18. Susan Fox says:

I think I might have to join you, need my firewood chopping now a widow….x

  19. Amrit Sinha says:

I can hear the knock on the wood 🙂

  20. Ahh yes reading through the comment I got your humor perfectly.. we have the same saying in Swedish,

  21. I know that feeling ~ I often do chores in the middle of the night ~ its better than lying in bed awake!

    • I’ve gotten to the point of not fighting insomnia. When I a awake in the middle of the night, I get up, write for a couple of hours, and then take a nap before going off to work.

      • Gosh I don’t know how you manage to work after a disturbed night. At least I can have a sit down every now and then during my day~ but oh how I would love a good night’s sleep!

I think we have a noise law…here in the suburbs limits on before 10 am and after 10 pm.
I think as long as the moon were your lantern, go for it.
I forget what the view is of vigorous motion before sleep is these days.

The ax may be steady, but sometimes the chainsaw is the only thing to get through the larger pieces. 🙂

I think I read that if you can’t sleep, there’s not sense in staying in bed. Might as well accomplish something 🙂
