October sorrow—
 
watching the full hunter’s moon

a bright-faced dandelion
 
pops up in my yard.

 
 
 

The tattered scarecrow
 
wears wild asters on his hat—
 
October dandy.

a seventy-year-old man
 
decides to come out.

 
 

October’s first joy—
 
some wild asters in a ditch
 
sing of seeds to come.

 
 
 

October winds down—
 
in Southern California
 
morning glories bloom.
