Waiting for sunrise
 
on one of winter’s last days,
 
I savor my tea.

the mornings are darker now
 
and so is my tea.

I decide to stay inside,

paging through seed catalogs

is just like any other—

reading obituaries
 
as I sip my tea

 
 
 

First day of the month—
 
the tea in my cup grows cold
 
along with my prayers.

 
 

Smoky autumn tea—
 
I marvel at the blessings
 
nestling in my cup.

 
 
 

Brisk autumn morning—
 
in my cup the universe
 
masquerades as tea.

 
 
 

First autumn cold snap—
 
my hands cradle a white cup
 
filled with steaming tea.
